Pastor receives Divine Call

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.” — Acts 20:28

On Sunday, October 17, St. Mark’s pastor, Benjamin Tomczak, received a Divine Call to serve as the pastor at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio. The congregation was founded in 1890 and also operates a Lutheran elementary school.

Pastor Tomczak now has two Divine Calls to deliberate, his current call to St. Mark and the new one to Zion.  The process of deliberating a Call includes a lot of prayer, careful consideration of parish needs and the gifts and abilities of the man called.  Conversations with family, friends, colleagues, and members of both congregations are also a heavy part of the process.

  1. Dear Ben,

You will be in my prayers as you deliberate where best to serve our Lord. I held a call to another congregation in the Toledo area last spring. While deliberating I found a paper by Prof. Rich Gurgel particularly helpful. Here’s the link…

God bless and be with you as he leads you to a decision that he will use to bless his Kingdom!
