After brief summer breaks, St. Mark’s teaching ministry gets back into full swing! This Sunday, September 20, our Sunday School, Adult Bible Class, and Confirmation (Lutheran Catechesis) classes get back into action.
Sunday School and Adult Bible classes are on Sunday mornings, beginning at 9:15 am in the Education Building. Confirmation classes are held at 4 pm on Sunday afternoons at the parsonage.
Here’s a brief overview of the educational opportunities currently available:
- Sunday School -- for children up to the 8th or 9th grade, studying Bible History
- Confirmation Instruction — Currently St. Mark has a four year program for Lutheran catechesis. Two years (grades 5-6) are dedicated to Bible History study, and two years (grades 7-8) are dedicated to study of the six chief parts of the Christian faith, following the outline of Dr. Martin Luther in the Small Catechism: the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Holy Communion, Keys and Confession.
- Midweek Bible Class — On Wednesday’s, at 9:30 am, we gather for Bible study. Currently, we are working our way through Luther’s Large Catechism (discussion questions available at on the Bible Studies page). Starting in late October we will study the doctrine of justification.
- Sunday Adult Bible Class — On Sunday mornings we gather to study the word. Our newest study will be of the End Times, based on Matthew 24-25, and selections from the book of Revelation.
- Bible Information Class — We offer, whenever students are interested, a class, aimed primarily at adults, called GOD 101. The purpose of the class is to teach the basics of the Christian faith over the course of 15 lessons (about 40-45 hours). The class is also meant as the pre-cursor for adult initiation into membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, come join us! If you have any questions, contact Pastor Tomczak at 972-298-0891.
